The kitchen is one of the most used rooms in the house and it is often the hardest room to keep tidy. In this post we share some tips to help you keep your kitchen looking tidy and organised.
- Make full use of your pantry
The pantry is a great way to hide lots of food items away behind a door, making your kitchen appear neater and tidier. If you have a pantry have a think about what are the key items that you use when cooking, and consider what will go on what shelf i.e. the shelves within reach need to have the items that you regularly use and the items not used as much can be higher up, available when you need them.
Also think about storage. Shops such as KMART, IKEA and even discount shops and supermarkets have great glass containers that you can use to store your dry products and easily label and see what is in each – rather than playing ‘pot luck’ with frosted containers that you have to check each time to see what is in them.
- Make use of shelving
If you have shelves in your kitchen or room for them – use them. You can use them to create feature walls in your kitchen or to put regularly used items such as crockery and spice jars without taking up too much space.
- Consider unused space
Make use of all of your kitchen by having a look to see whether there are any spaces that could be utilised for storage i.e. some kitchens often have small spaces where chopping boards and other small items can easily be slid in and stored.
- Use rails and racks on the walls to tidy things up
Consider a rail on your available walls in your kitchen so you can use hooks to hang up items such as saucepans, cooking utensils to save some space in your cupboards. This is a great way to add a decorative feature to your kitchen as well as a way to keep all your utensils tidy in one place.
- Double up on cupboard space
If you have cupboards that are quite narrow but have a lot of height consider using a cupboard stand (pictured) to enable you to get twice the amount of space out of that one cupboard section. You could also use stackable plastic boxes.
- Use Dividers to organise your drawers
Help cut down on clutter in your drawers by using simple dividers. You can easily do this by buying dividers from any home improvement shop or store such as Kmart/Big W or simply use dowel pegs upright inside the drawers. This will work well with items such as cutlery and utensil drawers.
