Signs you need a new floor

Wondering if it’s time to give your current floor the boot? If you’re in the middle of trying to make this decision, here are three signs that floor removal and replacement could be the best option for your home.

1. Damage That Can’t Be Undone

Do your tiles bear a stain that won’t come out no matter what chemicals you douse it in? Is there an unsightly tear in your vinyl flooring? If you’ve tried everything and succeeded only in giving yourself a headache, it could be time to give up on the floor and get it replaced. Even if a floor’s damage is repairable, getting it fixed could be quite expensive. Consider whether replacing it now could be more cost-effective in the long term compared to fixing it now and replacing it down the track.

2. Living in the Past

Are your floors discoing in the ‘80s while the rest of your décor defines modern sophistication? Perhaps you’ve recently renovated other parts of your home and now the flooring looks outdated in comparison. If your floors are aesthetically clashing with the contemporary style of your house, replacement could well be on the cards.

3. Changes in Your Lifestyle

Certain lifestyle changes can inspire new floors. If you’re expecting a baby, you might want to trade hardwood for softer carpet. If your kids are in the clumsy-and-spilling-things-all-the-time phase, it could be a good idea to limit your stain-susceptible surfaces. Or maybe you’ve just gotten a promotion and can now afford the designer ceramic tiles you’ve always dreamed of. Whatever your circumstances are, if your floors don’t correspond with your lifestyle, this might suggest that a new floor is in order.
