In our last article – Perfect floors begin with Professional Preparation – we outlined the importance of seeing floor stripping as a critical component, of achieving beautiful end-results. So, now that you’ve decided to hire a professional floor stripping business, what can you do to make the whole process easier? Here are 5 simple to understand tips!
1. Remove & Protect: Furniture, fixtures, Fittings.
Ensure all furniture, electrical appliances and valuables are removed from the work area, or covered with drop sheets. Glass doors should be protected / boarded, and food/linen removed from work areas. We also advise removing paintings, pictures, mirrors and other wall hangings.
2. Advance warning re: Dust and Noise
The nature of floor stripping is such that dust and noise are inevitable. For safety reasons, unlock all external doors and windows, and check they can be opened – for ventilation. For courtesy reasons, notify any relevant parties, inc. neighbours, tenants, landlords, businesses, etc.
3. Access to entrances and power sockets.
To facilitate the removal of debris & waste, unrestricted access to and from the work area, is essential. Floor stripping services also require access to standard, electrical power sockets. If either of these aspects present a challenge, inform your floor stripping service provider, in advance.
4. Expect the Unexpected.
The condition of the concrete and/ or wooden sub-flooring, after flooring removal, will depend upon the quality of the original workmanship / materials. It’s hard to predict problems in advance, and it’s perfectly possible to uncover nasty surprises (e.g. cracks, decay), so be prepared!
5. Above all, always use Professionals!
Our best advice is to use experienced, master-builder registered technicians. In addition, always ensure your suppliers carry fully comprehensive insurance – just in case of emergencies!
